Health technology is the application of scientific knowledge in health care and prevention. Health technology assessment (HTA) is a multidisciplinary process that summarises information about the medical, social, economic and ethical issues related to the use of a health technology in a systematic, transparent, unbiased, robust manner.

The Networking Sessions at ICT 2008 complement the conference and exhibition and provide an open forum for exchanging views and ideas on how to address current ICT challenges. The Network for Integrated Systems in Telemedicine (NEST) invites Russian and German healthcare/telemedicine experts from 14th to 16th April, 2008 (Moscow) for a workshop combining lectures and dialogues between representatives of the Charité University Medicine Berlin and the Russian Medical State University.

The European Commission's Information Society and Media Directorate General published the report of the TeleHealth2007 conference. This conference provided a first overview and introduction to all the reasons why the European Commission is beginning to explore the possibilities for a future action plan for Europe on telemedicine. It would be published in the context of a Commission Communication.

The World of Health IT Conference & Exhibition (WoHIT) Organizing Committee welcomes the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) as a new member for the 2008 Conference. The conference will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on Nov. 4-6, 2008. The EFMI supports healthcare informatics and all disciplines concerned with healthcare and informatics; 30 countries are now members of the organisation.
