The very first Nordic Conference on Telemedicine took place in Finland in 1996 at the time when telemedicine was an emerging discipline. Since then, the conference has rotated biannually in all the Nordic Countries, which have been the early pioneers in healthcare ICT development. The event has also given a basis for the Nordic Telemedicine Association, which was founded to foster co-operation in the field of telehealth as a federation of national organisations.

Internet for all: EU ministers commit to an inclusive and barrier-free information society

A pan-European drive to use information and communication technologies to help people to overcome economic, social, educational, territorial or disability-related disadvantages was endorsed by ministers of 34 European countries in Riga (Latvia) yesterday. "e-Inclusion" targets include halving the gap in internet usage by groups at risk of exclusion, boosting broadband coverage in Europe to at least 90%, and making all public web sites accessible by 2010.
